How to Import Items from a CSV File

If you have a product catalog in a spreadsheet, you can import it directly into MobileBiz Pro instead of adding each item by hand. The process takes just a few minutes.

What You'll Need

Before you start: Your item data saved as a .csv or .txt file with column headers in the first row. Place the file on your device (in the MobileBiz CSV imports folder) or in your Dropbox account. Back up your data first if you have existing items — see How to Back Up Your Data.

Steps

  1. Open the side menu and tap Manage Data.

  2. Tap Import CSV.

  4. Tap the file button and choose where your CSV is stored. Tap Sdcard to browse your device, or Dropbox to pick a file from your Dropbox account. Then select your file.

  5. Choose how to handle the data:

    • Add or Update — adds new items and updates existing ones that match.
    • Add — only adds new items; skips any that already exist.
    • Update — only updates existing items; skips new ones.
  6. Tap Map Fields. Assign each MobileBiz field to the matching column in your CSV. Tap Auto Map to let the app match columns automatically — works best when your headers use standard names like NAME, PRICE, or DESCRIPTION.

  7. Tap Done when your mapping looks correct.

  8. Tap Import One to test with the first row of your file. If the item appears correctly, tap Import All to import your full catalog.

Good to Know

  • Fields left as "Not mapped" are skipped — the import won't fail because of unmapped columns.
  • If you chose Add or Update or Update, you'll be asked to pick an ID column so the app knows which existing items to match against.
  • Item fields you can map include: Name, Description, Price, Cost, Category, Barcode, Tax Code, On-hand Qty, and more.
  • Always test with Import One first — it's easy to fix your mapping before running the full import.
  • You can also export your current items as a CSV to use as a template for new entries. See How to Export Data to CSV.
